Thomas Taft Salon is women owned and operated, pandemic survivors, and inclusive community partners. Thank you for sharing our mission of spreading love and embodying art for a decade.
Owner and Master Hair Artist, Melyssa Graham, opened the doors of Thomas Taft Salon on 74th & 2nd Avenue in November of 2013. During Melyssa’s decade-long experience working in Manhattan salons, she bore witness to an odd reality. Although her industry appeared to be female-dominated, most hair salons were owned by men, lacked diversity and felt inauthentic. Melyssa decided to start Thomas Taft Salon to create space for a women-led hair salon that would naturally attract the diversity and inclusivity she saw lacking in the industry. The salon is named after Melyssa’s grandfather, Thomas Taft, who owned and operated a hardware store in Hudson Valley, NY. Clearly, working with her hands is in the genes.
While teaming up with Marketing Strategist, Stephanie Del Russo, Thomas Taft Salon has been cited numerous times in national publications, has starred in the CNBC Five Day Biz Fix and has grown to have the largest salon footprint in the Upper East Side.
The salon embraces individuality and expression of its team and clients while creating genuine relationships with them. The salon culture embraces mental health health awareness by offering silent appointments for clients and promoting mental health care from within to help destigmatize the topic.
Thomas Taft Hair Artists specialize in treatments, blonding, balayage, dimensional color, precision haircuts, keratin, and texture services. With the addition of Thomas Taft Lab, a classroom setting service menu for Hair Artists in Training, they are able to accommodate New Yorkers on any budget.
